Has Jackson's Autopsy Photo Been Leaked?

Rumors are swirling that someone leaked a photo of the King of Pop’s autopsy. The Daily Beast’s Gerald Posner investigates.
Last week I received a telephone call from a photo agent in London who I had met in 1999 while investigating the death of Princess Di for Talk magazine. Then, he had helped me chase down rumors of photos snapped immediately after the accident in the Pont Alma tunnel. In the spring of ’99, surrounded by tight security in a clandestine location, I was shown low-resolution images of a dying Diana still trapped in the crumpled Mercedes. Those pictures were offered to me for $2 million. I passed. Some of the less graphic ones were finally aired in 2004 by CBS’s 48 Hours. CBS was widely condemned for showing the pictures, from Diana's brother who said he was "sickened" to Prime Minister Tony Blair who called the broadcast of the grainy black-and-white images "distasteful."
But the call from London was not this time about Di. It was about Michael Jackson, and an equally distasteful photo, one supposedly snapped at Jackson’s autopsy.
“There are rumors that a photo is being flashed around Los Angeles,” he told me. “Supposedly was given to someone from who was at the autopsy.”
One executive who saw the alleged photo told The Daily Beast that he was certain it was “not a cellphone picture. The quality was far too good.”
If what he told me was true, it would constitute a remarkable breach of security for the Los Angeles investigators on the Jackson death probe, as well as the coroner’s office where the autopsy was conducted. Since that call, The Daily Beast followed a trail through dozens of people in the U.S. and Europe and tracked down a prominent Los Angeles restaurant owner who has a high-resolution copy of what is evidently a photo from the Jackson autopsy. That person has shown it to friends on his BlackBerry, including several California-based television executives. The restaurant owner told at least one of those TV execs that the photo had been given to him by a “high-ranking police friend.”

• Gerald Posner: Did Jackson Drug Himself? Two of those who saw it described it to me independently, one of them saying it was “shocking.” It is of Jackson, his eyes wide open, lying on his back on a metal autopsy table. The picture is of Jackson’s head only, and taken from the corpse’s left side, from someone who was standing, and at about a 30-degree angle toward the body. The front of the pop star’s skull is shaved. His ashen face is stripped of any makeup. The lips are flat and wide, but without lipstick. A scar, which he had hidden under makeup whenever he went out, is visible on his left cheek. His tattooed eyebrows are the only other visible mark on his face.
One executive who saw it, although not a professional photographer, told The Daily Beast that he was certain it was “not a cellphone picture. The quality was far too good.”
I traded email and text messages with the restaurant owner. “Who gave u my contact infor?” he first replied to me. He refused a personal visit when I offered to fly to Los Angeles to see him. “Thanks for ur interest, good luck to u and ur continued success,” he said, trying to end any further contact.
When I continued pushing, he only replied, “Thnk u, but at this time I’m not interested.” When asked whether he still had the photo, he didn’t answer.
Though there’s no evidence the restaurant owner has offered the photo for sale, somehow word of what he has had spread across the pond to London. The photo editors from likely British tabloids buyers of such a picture—The Sun, News of the World, or The Daily Mail—refused to say whether they had heard about a Jackson autopsy photo for sale. However, one editor told me off the record that such a photo would fetch easily over $1 million for worldwide rights.
But no one with the photo better plan their retirement soon. If the picture is real, then the Los Angeles coroner and police might have something to say about that.

If there is indeed a verified true photo of the corpse of MJ that is to be released or has been released, then the L.A. Police and D.A. must investigate and prosecute. If they don't, then the Estate and family members will sue - and rightfully so. With Mr. Posner's reporting of this case, those with access to or in possession of a photo will give second thoughts to releasing it. How totally repulsive this situation has become.
Bravo to you! I can only hope & pray I never see the picture! RIP Michael!
Who honestly cares if there is a photo that has surfaced of Michael Jackson? I mean, we see photos everyday of deceased people on the News stations or CNN Specials. They may not be famous deceased people, but they should be given the same respect. I really wished the World would treat people as one and a Black person didn't have to put on an act to make you laugh, smile, and feel good about yourself. But they could just be themselves.
Here's the infamous "leaked" photo that's been circulating around the interwebz...

...apparently it was take just before Jackson's body was transferred to Area 51.

Of course, it would be totally unethical for any autopsy photo to be made public.
But the big reveal here would be: how did Michael Jackson look without all the makeup?
Dead as reported?
White!
Okay, why is he wearing a diaper? On the outside of his pants?
This is the most news! How could anyone be so callous as to think how someone could take a picture of MJ, our King of Pop at his darkest time. How would you like someone plastering a photo of your face on your autopsy? Shame on you and shame on the vulgar people that write trash on here.
Is Gerald Posner impersonating Michael Jackson??
I think some of these horrible tragedies, that make news, take rare events, and exploit them, repeat them, until people fear a person walking behind them on a public side walk.
We see starving people in Africa for example, dying in the streets, and people take their picture and print them.
What is the difference.
It is just a line. A manufactured line. Manufactured consent even.
That is why it becomes political. Because it matters. All human suffering matters, especially the preventable kind.
People have nothing better to do than try and sell a photo of Michael deceased. Where is the bottom? We have no respect here in America. It's all about the money!! Heaven help you Mr. Photographer, who apparently needs help.
Who cares?
Just another stiff.
If there is a photo I'm sure it would have been mentioned that MJ did not have his nose prosthetic on. So this is obviously a fake. Most of his true fans were aware of the scare on his left cheek. NEXT!
I am more amazed everyday by the world's obsession with pop culture, celebrity, macabre movies, and violence.
If the world were a person, it would certainly be a sick person...riddled with cancer, and in a mental institution, broken beyond repair.
Here's a wonderful piece of advice: Imagine your life as a tall drinking glass. Each and every day, you have a choice as to how you will fill it. What will you put into it? Beautiful music? Wonderful books and movies that compel you to grow as a human being? Nutritious and lovely food that keeps you healthy? Good thoughts? Positive energy?
Or will you will continue to fill your life with junk, violent movies, silly gossip, and obsessed with celebrities and meaningless chatter? There is so much beauty in the world...do you see it? And there is so much to be done...or are you just busy watching Halloween 12, eating McDonalds and looking for Michael Jackson's autopsy picture on line?
Have you seen the new Hubble photographs from outerspace? Have you ever heard of musician Yo Yo Ma? Could you bring a few canned goods to your local food pantry? Is there an interesting topic you'd like to investigate---the pyramids, black holes, global warming?
Come on, people, wake up. You, too, Mr. Posner. Have you ever wondered, sir, what intrinsic value you are adding to this world? In the end, what will your efforts amount to? Is gossip and celebrity worship a compelling and purposeful part of life on earth? Does it move humanity forward? Is there something of value you could be writing about, that changes the world, or brings us in a new direction?
Time to think, folks. Time to fill up your glass in a better way...
Thank you.
